Tourism is concentrated in the coastal beach towns in the north, east, southeast, southwest and capital city of Santo Domingo.

The country draws over 2 million visitors each year and has the largest amount of hotel rooms in the Caribbean.

What to do in Punta Cana.

Punta Cana is a place where you can be active,  taking part in water sports and other recreational activities, lay on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, or do nothing at all.

The spectacular beaches, you'll find all sort of water activities, such as diving, surfing, and deep sea fishing. There are also boat and yacht rentals.

Like golf?  There are a lot of newer golf courses that have been designed by Robert Trent Jones and Pete Dye. Tennis courts are at most of  the resorts.

In Punta Cana, you can swim with dolphins, snorkeling, diving, and fishing. Northeast of Punta Cana in Samana there is whale watching from January through March.

Or relax and get away from it all.  Let go of all of your worries..

The nightlife are mostly at the resorts, where you can dance the night away, or go to a casino.  Or, enjoy a stroll on the beach or relax in one of the lounges..

Shopping:

Punta Cana is great for shopping, name brand fashions and local arts and crafts.

There are Punta Cana "specialities". The larimar, a light blue colored stone that can be found in jewelry throughout the island, and amber.  There is a wide range of arts and crafts, paintings, jewelry, and clothes that you can purchase. Punta Cana's craftspeople are also well known for making some of the best rocking chairs.

There are malls where top of the line items from the likes of Ralph Lauren, Nautica, Guess, and Versace can be found. The malls are truly international marketplaces with some very good deals!

Minors

Minors traveling with only one parent or adults other than the parents must have a notarized letter from the absent parent authorizing them to be taken out of the country.  If the parent is deceased, a copy of the death certificate will be required for check-in at the airport.
